We all know there is no perfect job out there (unless of course you’re a food critic, a travel writer, or the person naming all those Crayola crayons). No matter the occupation—no matter how wonderful—there is always a sticking point. And if you happen to work at a desk all day like we do, you know exactly what one of those sticking points is.

If sitting at a computer for eight hours straight isn’t the perfect recipe for headaches, sore eyes and a Quasimodo physique I don’t know what is. Now, if you work a desk job I’m not saying that you necessarily look like Quasi, yet. But let me be blunt: unless you’re making a good old-fashioned effort to beat the hunch, it’s only a matter of time before you’ll have Esmerelda on speed dial. If we “Deskies” don’t make a change and quick, we could end up suffering from a whole list of tragedies from poor digestion to degenerative spine disease. Not to mention that we could do a major number on our eyes!

Although there are not any quick fixes for these negative side effects, just a few small changes in your habits can go a long way. Now, I know what you’re thinking: the last thing I need is another new years resolution! But this isn’t a resolution; it’s more like a piece of cake. Enter Dejal’s Time Out App. This handy little app—which happens to be free—is the perfect way to start making positive changes in your desk habits today. It will only take a minute to download, and it could save you lots of pain and headaches (literally). Because half the battle is just remembering to straighten your back, stretch your legs and re-adjust your eyes, the Time Out app gently reminds you to make those checks and take necessary breaks. These reminders are fully customizable to your work schedule and personal preferences. It’s simple really, and if you stick with it you’ll not only feel better—you’ll look better, too! Who knows, maybe by the end of the week you’ll have good enough posture to balance a book on your head while pouring your morning cup of coffee!

Well look at us, not long after celebrating Milk’s third birthday and we’re moving locations for a third time. At this rate we might as well plan to “change office” every New Year’s Eve (goodbye champagne and streamers, hello IKEA assembly instructions). Or better yet, we just might have to set up shop in our very own Airstream trailer. Who needs to e-mail files? We’ll come to you! (Ah, if only we lived in a world where gas was truly dirt cheap).

We never could have predicted that after starting out underneath the palms in Orange County, California we’d move our business back to our hometown of Grand Rapids, MI—and now to Auckland, New Zealand! You know what they say, “third times a charm”, and we don’t expect it to be any different for our new home. After all, according to the World Bank Group, New Zealand is rated the second best country for doing business in the world—surpassed only by Singapore. Would you believe we actually got our business up and running in a day here? How refreshing to not even need a scissors for all that red tape we’re so accustomed to.

So far this new land has proven to be a beautiful, friendly, good-natured one and although we can’t really bake a nation-sized plate of cookies to show our appreciation, we can offer honest hard work and valuable services to boot! Of course we will always have a special place in our hearts for our U.S. clients, and will do everything humanly possible to give them the same quality products and customer care as we do anyone else—all miles and time-changes aside. But we are quite excited about all the ways this new place and experience will help the growth and maturity of our business. And most of all we’re excited you’re here, reading this blog, because you’re the reason we love our jobs. No matter where we wander, we hope you come along.
